Underwear made with TENCEL™ fibres

Why TENCEL™

TENCEL™ is Lenzing's brand of lyocell and modal fibres that come from the pulp of trees.

The benefits of using TENCEL™ Lyocell include the traceable and sustainable origin of the wood pulp, and the use of a closed loop solvent and water recycling process. In addition, TENCEL™ Lyocell is a high-tenacity cellulosic fibre, which gives high strength properties to the fabric.

What TENCEL™ fibres actually do

Wood pulp in, fibre out. The difference shows up by mid-afternoon.

Stays dry

Lyocell and Modal fibers support a natural dry feeling through moisture control.

Stays fresh

Lyocell fibers are unfavorable to odor-causing bacteria.

Natural

The wood is sourced from certified or controlled forests under FSC and PEFC standards, and the fibre carries the EU Ecolabel.

Common questions

Is underwear made with TENCEL™ fibres better than cotton?

For moisture, yes. Cotton absorbs sweat and holds it against your skin. TENCEL™ fibres pull it inside so the surface stays drier.

Is TENCEL™ Lyocell the same as lyocell?

Lyocell is the generic fibre type. TENCEL™ is the Lenzing branded version, produced to a specific standard with certified wood sourcing. Not all lyocell is TENCEL™.

Do TENCEL™ fibres shrink?

They are more dimensionally stable than cotton. Wash cold and hang dry and you will not see meaningful shrinkage.

Is it breathable?

Yes. The fibre absorbs and releases moisture, which supports a drier layer against your skin and better airflow than a synthetic of similar weight.

Does it hold odour?

Lyocell fibers are unfavorable to odor-causing bacteria.

Are TENCEL™ fibres good for sensitive skin?

The smooth fibre surface means less friction and less irritation than a rougher fibre like cotton. If chafing is your issue, this is the material change that helps.

Is it warm or cool?

It is not an insulating fibre, so it is not a thermal layer on its own.

Are TENCEL™ fibres sustainable?

TENCEL™ Lyocell is made from wood from certified or controlled forests in a closed loop process that recovers over 99.8% of its solvent. That is the fibre. The finished product also contains elastane, which is a synthetic, so we do not make end-of-life claims about the garment.

Where can I buy underwear made with TENCEL™ fibres in Canada?

Right here. Nether is a Canadian brand, and Roam is cut from 93% TENCEL™ Lyocell. It ships across Canada and to the US.
